Kaukana (“Far Away”), dominated by free jazz saxophonist Sami Pekkola, is a reinterpretation of the African-American spiritual Motherless Child.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMusically the record evokes both the political free jazz of Max Roach and the proto-hippy folk of Finland’s Pekka Streng.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn these dark, dystopian times, the album’s message of peace and love is surprisingly refreshing, radical in all its simplicity. It gives strength and rekindles a faith in humanity.
