Waxtime / RE 2011
Jazz In Silhouette (1959) is a key record from Sun Ra's late 1950s Chicago period, marking the end of his bebop/hard-bop phase and the emergence of his "interstellar traveler" persona. It features standout performances by tenor saxophonist John Gilmore and introduces Arkestra members Marshall Allen, Pat Patrick, and Ronnie Boykins. Many tracks became long-term staples in the Arkestra's setlists. This expanded edition includes the full Sound Sun Pleasure, rare stereo mixes, bonus tracks, and original cover art. It also features liner notes by Irwin Chusid and an essay by John Corbett.
