Tampered Suit / USA / RE 2026
The second release from the tampered.suit label is a full-length debut album by Deyusunn, produced in a limited quantity of individually numbered, hand-painted cassette tapes.
This album represents a facet of ordinary sounds transformed into idiosyncratic miniature musical, and sensory movements.
The selections were kept in their minimal form to preserve the natural incidents of background noise, odd harmonic voicings, & phantom melodies, enabling the listener to concentrate on the sample's rhythmic spontaneity and actual occurrences.
The primary motivation for this project originated from the concept of enabling two or more random sounds to coexist, thus supporting one another to cultivate a chemistry of synergy, hypnotic pattern repetition, and communication. Oftentimes simple melodies were added to give the environments more musical character.
The sounds vary from restaurant ambience heard on the track "adaption", sounds of deep flowing petrol, bubbling soup, laundry machines, squeaky car breaks, an abandoned ringing phone from a local swimming pool, garden instruments from nearby parks, radios from various waiting rooms, electrical pulses, nature field recordings, samples from records, creaky door hinges and more.
The cover art serves as a remnant of memory that has been digitally enlarged and degraded; (captured last year during my commute at a traffic light.) In a fast-paced world, simple beauties are often overlooked, and this project allows ordinary things to become the focus.
During the recording and mixing process, a study in equalization archeology was demonstrated with the sole purpose of unearthing and revealing concealed layers within the field recordings through the application of extreme EQ extraction techniques. These electro-acoustic tones serve as the musical instruments on this release.
The sound experiments were intentionally strung together like a pixelated exhibition of past auditory memories in which the outcome was a left-field hallucinogenic mixtape characterized by nostalgic abstraction.
Much of the focus was placed on human automation to infuse life, pulse, sensory engagement, and movement to the sound installations. As the album advances, it gradually sheds its musical attributes, and the sounds start to evoke a more meditative state, resembling machinery and spiritual intelligence that acquire their own autonomy and attempt to sing their own tune.
This recording was intentionally mastered quieter for a relaxed, sedated listening experience.
