The first installment of the "Basement" archives is a raw time capsule from Han Swolfs (Hantrax). Recorded between 1998 and 2002 in a suburban basement in Antwerp, these tracks represent the transition from his classical training to a full-blown obsession with hardware.
This is pure, unadulterated analogue Electro. The sound is hardware-heavy, featuring crunchy drum machines and sinister synth lines that feel both primitive and futuristic. Far from being "demos," these tracks carry an urgency and a DIY grit that is hard to find in modern digital productions.
Painstakingly restored and mastered by Yves De Mey, Tracks From The Basement 1 is a dark, danceable trip into the origins of one of Belgium's most enigmatic electronic artists. A must-have for those who dig the aesthetics of early Rephlex or the darker corners of the Dutch West Coast scene.
