In Pedreres, the legendary Barcelona-based experimentalist Rosa Arruti (Nad Spiro) unveils a haunting "sonic fiction" inspired by the lost quarries of Montjuïc mountain. Using only one guitar and four pedals, Arruti delves into subterranean echoes and spectral loops, mapping out the invisible labyrinths of a landscape shaped by industry and reclaimed by folklore.
Each composition is a tribute to a hidden pedrera (quarry), now buried under the modern city. The result is a dense sound magma where processed guitar washes create an atmosphere described by The Wire as "extremely evocative" and possessing a "sheer eeriness." It is a meditative yet uneasy listening experience, unexpectedly beautiful, layered, and lysergic.
As noted by Spectrum Culture, the album is "pleasingly slow to unfold," rewarding the listener with splintered timbres and mysterious sound structures that bridge the gap between geological history and experimental art.
