Rolba is a relatively fresh trio from Prague based in Daniel Meier’s creative basement dungeon at Kamenická 48. Meier, the violin / SOMA player, is joined by Jan Turner on bass and Pavel Havrda on drums. Their eponymous debut is an ode to a traditional weird rock / free improv situation with often absurd and hypnotical vibes, where effected bass and violin easily replaces the sound of guitar and flows freely on unpredictable coal-into-cellar rhythm pattern. What makes the music very unique are moments when Meier’s violin goes strip nude on the sound and jams on some folkloric connotations while standing against Havrda’s and Turner’s rhythmic mindmelter.
Rolba is released on audio cassette in edition of 50 copies, with artwork by Lucie Lučanská. Recorded and produced by Xavier Andrieu.
