Tabi Tapes / UK / 2026
Intoxicating circumnavigational world folk sound collage from Barcelona-based curator / collector David Balasch in quintessential Tabi Tapes style!
It’s widely agreed that traditional music bleeds through political boundaries, but threading geographically (and sonically) disparate styles is a challenge. This globetrotting assemblage utilises the power of layered sound, sculpting a vivid aural world resembling a hallucinogenic sound walk through a forest of the world’s people. Spritely flutes of Rajasthan melt into sedating South East Asian percussion whilst hypnotic vocal threads weave themselves in-between. David’s incredible Invisible Shelter radio series is a sublime masterclass in regional folk music exploration, often with laser-focus on a specific instrument or territory. Yet his arrangement here is another beast altogether, leaving context and focus wide open for us to unravel over time. The musical ayahuasca trip you’ve been waiting for.
