Heat Crimes / UK / 2026

Terskol is a slow-burning mass of pressure and residue. Dense, heavy music that moves with the patience of doom yet refuses its theatrics. Recorded between 2017 and 2021 on a modular system and a malfunctioning drum machine, Utku Önal's self-titled debut operates in an unstable zone: neither fully electronic nor rock-derived, neither anchored to a place nor fixed in time.

Low frequencies loom and breathe, treated as physical force rather than stylistic gesture, shaping the record's psychological weight while cold, repetitive percussion grinds forward with minimal variation. Harmonics smear and overlap, forming melodies that feel half-remembered, folkloric, spectral, quietly ominous. Acolytes of Godflesh, Sunn O))), Muslimgauze and Kevin Richard Martin will recognise the coordinates; what's less predictable is how Önal navigates between them with such cloistered, unhurried conviction.

Rather than chasing guitar-like distortion, he preserves the naked voltage of analogue oscillators, letting noise accumulate without eruption - until it does, on tracks like 'Backstepper' and 'WMEMWAMS', where the doomscape buckles under its own weight. '9A' smoulders through ambient sludge and 'Bedroht' slowly closes the air around you.

Crushing without shouting, ritualistic without belief. Haunted, diasporic and stubbornly out of era. Formerly unreleased, it arrives feeling like a missing link: a slow ritual of fog, sub-pressure and unresolved weight that was probably never intended for wider consumption, and is all the better for it.
