Sonitron / USA / RE 2025
Recorded in 1956, the soundtrack to the cult sci-fi masterpiece Forbidden Planet remains one of the most astounding examples of early electronic music. Bebe and Louis Barron created a sonic universe that was light-years ahead of its time, using homemade cybernetic circuits and "electronic tonalities" that predated the commercial synthesizer.
This is proto-electronica at its most visionary. Through a myriad of vintage artifacts, tape loops, and primitive modular synthesis, the Barrons composed a score that feels truly extraterrestrial. From the iconic "Main Titles" to the eerie "Ancient Krell Music," the album is an unforgettable aural experience where science fiction, abstract soundscapes, and avant-garde experimentation collide.
This Sonitron reissue honors this absolute masterpiece of the genre, presenting the original 1956 score in a high-quality edition.
FFO: Daphne Oram, Raymond Scott, Delia Derbyshire, and early BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
