Basic Channel / Germany / RE 2025 /12"
Originally released in 1994, Phylyps Trak II (BC 09) is the ninth and final chapter in Basic Channel’s foundational 12" series. Across two contrasting sides, Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald capture the full arc of their sound, bridging the raw energy of Detroit techno with the spatial philosophy of Kingston dub.
The A-side revs up the frenetic momentum of early Detroit techno, delivering a fast-tempo, high-intensity club cut packed with granular stabs, metallic percussion, and hands-on dub processing. In sharp contrast, the B-side ('Phylyps Trak II/II') strips the rhythm down to a skeletal 13-minute stepper—a meditative exercise built on tape delays, analog noise textures, and deep sub-basslines. Mastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin.
