In 2023, Jo Willoughby and Joris Frowein were welcomed to RSPB Dungeness nature reserve where they volunteered alongside others, caring for and helping to maintain the expansive area. During this time they learnt about the Watchers, the founding volunteers of the RSPB who protected birds from poaching and egg theft. If the Watchers diligently watched, then what insights might be gained from diligently listening? Could listening help us connect deeply to the place and the inhabitants? Jo and Joris, along with other volunteers listened attentively to the birds, the creatures and their surroundings, as well as their volunteer colleagues and visitors to the reserve. The pair then gathered field recordings and texts and created music and poetry reflecting their experiences.
