Released on Conatala, the in-house label of Pianola Records (our favourite record store in Tokyo <3) NMA is one of the outcomes of a long urbanist project Japanese musician Shin-ya Ohno was involved with. “‘ИМА (Ima)’ released under his KiMiMi moniker, aims at capturing the layers of time and the presence of people inhabiting ‘Arimasuton Building’―a self-built structure created over 20 years by architect Keisuke Oka, located in Mita, Tokyo. Phenomenal music, generous, lyrical, conceptually and musically recalling Virginia Astley’s From Garden Where We Feel Secure, meshed with field recordings: the construction work on ‘Arimasuton Building”, people laughing, talking, living. A record design to document life. A blessing.
