Les Rallizes Dénudés were a legendary Japanese noise rock band formed in 1967 by Mizutani Takashi. Despite only one official release (Oz Days Live, 1973), they performed until 1996. Their music was characterized by loud, raw, lo-fi, feedback-heavy noise rock, drawing comparisons to The Velvet Underground and Blues Creation but without electronics. The band's name translates to "fucked up and naked," reflecting their chaotic sound.
Politically radical, the group had ties to far-left movements, including a member (Wakabayashi) involved in a Japanese Red Army hijacking. This led to secretive, rare live performances. Their albums were released in extremely limited quantities, and their elusive nature—combined with rumors of violence—cemented their cult status. Their album Blind Baby Has It's Mothers Eyes ranks #11 in Julian Cope’s top Japanese albums list.
