Luka Aron’s EP “Inland” is the first part from a collection of works for modular synthesizer, bowed dulcimer and cello that exercise the use of expanded time and its psychological impact through the physicality of sound.
The record begins with an eerie yet joyful monolithic drone, weaving wavefolded synthesis with cycling cello fifths, creating a conflux of interplaying overtones, often on the border of feedback. With its title “Unfold of Portals” hinting at an almost sacred imagery, it induces a hypnogogic state of mind where time is slipping and the artefacts of human perception are explored at the absence of stimuli.
“Dilated Canon” introduces melodic movement based on a Pythagorean tuning cycle, flowering in a patient manner, and challenging one’s aural memory via slowness and repetition. Similarly to the opening track, it is now the bowed dulcimer that introduces an element of fragility and humanness, ringing sharply against a foundation of canonically moving oscillators.
All sales, both digital and physical, will go to “Eclipse الكسوف”, an organisation supporting LGBTIQ+ refugees stuck in Moria, building a safe community and providing basic necessities. Especially during the pandemic many of their members don’t have any form of support, living under inhumane conditions and experiencing torture, rape or other forms of psychological, physical or sexual violence/exploitation on a daily basis with no way of escaping the camps on the island of Lesvos, Greece.
